MOLLY CARAPIET -- Skipper
Molly Carapiet was born in San Francisco in 1984. A graduate of Convent of the Sacred Heart Elementary School, Marin Catholic High School, and Yale University, Molly learned to sail at the age of five. She spent her summers sailing at the San Francisco Yacht Club’s junior program in Belvedere, CA. She learned competitive sailing in the venerable El Toro class where she honed her skills by racing in six national championships by the time she was fourteen years old.
Throughout high school, Molly competed in 420’s and FJ’s, serving as the captain of the top ranked Marin Catholic sailing team. During this time, she won the 2001 Junior Women’s Double-handed Championship as well as the US Youth Championship in the Europe class. She also placed 4th at the 2002 Youth World Championships in Novia Scotia, Canada.
She has twice been named Yachtswoman of the Year for the St. Francis Yacht Club in 2001 and 2005.
A four time Women’s All-American Skipper and a one time Coed All-American Skipper at Yale University, Molly won both the Single-Handed and Dinghy Women’s National Championships. During her summers throughout college, she competed at the international level, racing in three World Championships and one European Championship. She served as team captain of the Yale Sailing Team and graduated with a BA in History in May of 2006.
She is now committed to winning a medal at the 2012 Olympics in London in the Women’s 470 Class with Molly O’Bryan Vandemoer

MOLLY O’BRYAN VANDEMOER -- Crew
Molly O’Bryan Vandemoer was born in San Diego, CA on April 13, 1979 to Michael and Kathryn O’Bryan. She began sailing at a young age with her family on their Cal-29. At age 7 she started in the San Diego Yacht Club Junior Program sailing Naples Sabots, an 8 foot boat popular in Southern California. In high school she began sailing double-handed boats, crewing for her team, University of San Diego High School, as well as for the SDYC Junior Program. In 1995 she represented the United States at the ISAF Youth World Championships crewing in Laser II’s. While in High School, Molly competed in 6 National Championships, winning in 1996 as a crew in A division. She began skippering boats again her senior year of high school.
Molly attended the University of Hawaii at Manoa, competing on the newly formed women’s sailing team, as well at the co-ed varsity team. She competed as a skipper in 9 National Championships, placing top 5 in five of them and winning the Women’s National Championship in 2001. Molly was a three-time member of the All-American Team. She was the captain of Hawaii’s women’s team for three years and captain of the co-ed team in 2002. The University of Hawaii Athletic Department awarded her the Jack Bonham Award, given to one graduating female and male athlete for athletic excellence, academic achievement, public service, leadership and character.
Since graduating, Molly has skippered in 3 US Women’s National Championships representing Area H-West, as well as both local and international 470 regattas. She began crewing again in 2006 in both 470’s and J22’s. She was the Assistant Coach at the United States Naval Academy for 2 years. She then decided to commit her time fully to winning an Olympic medal with her skipper Molly Carapiet.
