470 World Championships- Day Five
Today was a long day without a lot of racing. After being postponed
on shore for over an hour due to a lack of wind, we were postponed on
the water for another hour while the race committee once again
struggled to set a course.
We started the race around 2:00pm in very little wind, around 4-6
knots, and a lot of current pushing us downwind and a little to the
left. We had a decent start and continued by tacking out to the
right. The first beat was very long due to the current and the lack of
wind. Half way up the beat we were looking good, but near the top of
the beat we got a little bit out of phase. We lost many places. We
rounded the first windward mark in about 20th place. We continued to
pass boats the rest of the race, finishing 14th overall. We were very
happy with our improvements in our light air downwind boat speed and
how we sailed the second beat.
The race committee sent us in after one race. We are currently in
15th place in the silver fleet. We have up to three races left over
the next two days. There is a potential we will finish the regatta
tomorrow.
