Team Molly has had two long days of racing. We have gone from struggling upwind and great downwind speed the first two days to good upwind speed and struggling downwind the past two days. We have seen a lot of light air and chop over the past 6 races.
Yesterday, we had three races in light winds. The first race we rounded the first windward mark in 7th place. We lost some boats on both downwind legs, finishing 15th. In the second race we had a bad race, finishing 24th. In the third race we had an awesome start down by the pin. We continued working our way left but could not continue as far left as we wanted due to a large spectator boat with flapping sails. The boats who continued left passed us and we rounded the first windward mark in 6th place. We stayed in the top 8 the rest of the race until the last reach when a boat forced us high and we lost three boats, finishing 11th place.
Today, the breeze was slightly up, but still only 7-10 knots. All three races, we had good starts and were able to play the shifts up the first beat. We rounded all the top windward marks in the top 15 and one in the top 10. At the beginning of the day people were just sailing around us on the downwind legs. We made a few adjustments and by the last race we were holding even on the downwind legs. Our finishes today were 22, 20 and 17.
