Team Molly had a solid day in very unpredictable racing conditions. The . wind began a lot like yesterday, very unstable. After an hour postponement we began racing in 6-7 knots, later dying to 4-5 knots. Velocity was very important today and it was easy to get mislead by trying to stay on the lifted tack.
The first race, there was a big right shift with velocity at the start. We tried to start to leeward of the pack, to lead towards the left side. Unfortunately, the wind never went back left and we rounded the first windward mark in last place. From that point on, we were constantly passing boats. We finished the race in 18th place.
The second race, there was a left shift a few minutes before the start. So we went to start at the pin. We were a little afraid of getting too far left and ended up in the middle of the course at the top of the beat. Boats from both sides of the course got around us. We rounded the mark in 25th and again continued to pass boats for the rest of the racing, finishing in 17th place.
They attempted to begin a third race, but rain showers came through the course. There are three races scheduled again for tomorrow. We have five more days left with 10 races scheduled.
