Team Molly just completed the first US Sailing Team Training Camp in Miami, FL. We started out with five boats over the weekend but then two of the teams had to leave for work/school. We were left with three teams for the following four days: Stuart McNay/ Graham Biehl, who recently attended the Olympics, and Joe Morris/ Willie Mc Bride, who are pretty new to the boat but very talented sailors. We had two different coaches from US Sailing- Leandro Spina and Luther Carpenter. Both coaches were extremely helpful and very thoughtful in their advice.
We have made huge progress from six months ago. We had mainly light air with one day of 10-18 knots in sunny Miami. Our downwind speed and boat handling has become top notch. We were close in speed with Stu and Graham in all conditions. Our upwind speed is really good and is only occasionally off pace. Our communication has been continually improving and we are working on some new ideas that seem to be working well.
We are taking today off before three more days of training in Miami. We have another US Sailing Team Training Camp from January 19th through 23rd and then the Rolex Miami Olympic Class Regatta January 26th-31st.
