Team Molly just completed their second US Sailing Team Training Camp of 2009. This training camp included all of the Olympic and Paralympic Classes. We had a schedule jammed pack with physical training, sailing and meetings. We met with various members of the Performance Enhancement Team, meteorologists, rules experts, publicists, and coaches. US Sailing wants to get us off on the right track to win a medal in 2012. The training camp was extremely informative as well as tiring.
For the actual sailing we did over the past four days, we saw a variety of conditions, ranging from 3 to 20 knots. Our speed was consistent in all of the conditions. We sailed with the US men’s 470 team, Stuart McNay and Graham Biehl, just back from the Olympics along with some younger US sailors and International teams. With our solid speed and boat handling, we were able to focus on our race course decision making. Both coaches, Bunny Warren and Leandro Spina, gave us some great things to think about.
We are taking this weekend to recover from the training camp and then we will begin racing at the Rolex Miami Olympic Class Regatta (RMOCR) on Monday. The RMOCR is a very important event for us. It is the only US Sailing Team Qualifier and is a Grade 1 International event. It is also the second event on the newly founded ISAF World Cup Tour. We will be racing with the 470 men and will have a total 28 boats racing. For more information about the event and the most up to date results, please visit: www.rolexmiamiocr.org.
