Team Molly had a day of comebacks during the first day of the Rolex Miami OCR. There are 28 470 teams competing against each other. However, they are scoring the men and women separately. Thus, we are only scored against 9 women’s teams even though we race against the men’s teams as well.
The wind varied from 6-10 knots with many wind shifts. Our boat speed felt good all day, especially on the runs. Both races we did not round the windward mark as high as we would have liked, but we continued passing boats the rest of the race. The first race we made a few mistakes on the first upwind leg but we learned from them for the second race. We were doing well 80% up the first beat of the second race and just barely fell out of the pressure, causing us to lose a few boats. We kept our head in the game and continued to pass boats, including a sweet move at the last leeward mark to pass the Finish Team!
We are currently in 4th place overall, with 10 more races left in addition to a medal race. Tomorrow the forecast is for good wind. We are hoping to have a better day.
