Team Molly had a great day today!!! There was a cold front that was supposed to hit Miami at some point this afternoon, but we did not know exactly when. We sailed the first race in 8-10 knots, but right after the first race the cold front hit. The temperature dropped and the wind quickly increased to 20 knots.
The first race we had a good start and worked the left side of the course. We rounded the first windward mark as the 2nd women’s team. On the last downwind leg we pulled an aggressive move to get in front of the Finish team, allowing us to win the race!!! The second race was very different- we had a bad start and had to tack out to the right side of the course. Unfortunately, the left side paid and we rounded the mark in sixth but we kept working hard and passed two boats to finish in 4th place.
We are currently in 4th place overall, just two points behind 3rd place. Tomorrow we have a medal race. This is our first medal race ever!!! The medal race only includes the top ten boats and is a shorter race- only 30 minutes long (in comparison to our usual 60 minutes). Also, you cannot discard the race and it counts as two races. Furthermore, whoever beats who in the medal race wins the tie breaker. So in order to win a bronze medal we just have to beat the Finish girls.
