Team Molly has been in Palma de Mallorca, Spain training for the Princess Sofia Regatta for the past week. Molly C. arrived early, prepared the boat, and went on the coach boat for a few days. Meanwhile, Molly V. was at the Grand Final of the Nation’s Cup held in Porto Alegre, Brazil. The Grand Final is the culmination of a global competition to find the world’s top match-racing nation and develop match-racing infrastructure around the world. Molly V., crewing for Olympic gold medalist Anna Tunnicliffe, placed third. She then flew across the world to begin 470 training.
We have been working with Stu McNay and Graham Biehl and coach Kenneth Andreasen to prepare for the Princess Sofia Regatta. We have seen a variety of wind conditions but a consistent precipitation every day. It is supposed to warm up and dry out over the next few days as we commence racing. We have been going well and are excited to begin racing.
The Princess Sofia Regatta is the third Sailing World Cup event. We are currently in fifth place in the World Cup standings and we are hoping to move up the rankings. There are thirty-two Women’s 470 teams entered. We begin racing tomorrow and will complete eleven races over the next six days.
