Team Molly had a solid start to the Princess Sofia Regatta in Palma de Mallorca, Spain. Day one we saw a light sea breeze with oscillating wind, staying between 4-7 knots. Today we saw a building sea breeze, peaking at 12 knots and then dying back down to 8 knots.
Yesterday, we had an okay first start and rounded the first windward mark in 7th place. We had got a little out of phase on the second beat and lost some boats, finishing 11th. The second race, we had a horrible start getting pushed out the back by two boats. We bailed out and were slow to get back on to the shift. We kept fighting and moved back up to 15th place; only to learn we were over early at the start.
Today, was a much better day. In the first race we had an okay start and rounded the first windward mark in 12th and that is where we finished the race. In the second race we had a great start, winning the pin! We rounded the first mark in 5th place, passed a boat on the run and then lost them again on the top of the last beat. We finished 5th place on the water but someone else was over early, moving us up to 4th.
We are currently in 13th place overall. We have six remaining races plus a medal race, over the next four days. The forecast for tomorrow is a little weird with the wind shifting 180 degrees in the middle of the day. So we will just have to wait and see what happens.
