Team Molly had a difficult last day. We have made some huge strides since the beginning of the regatta, but the scores don’t quite tell the whole story. We had a nice 11-14 knot breeze, that died in the last race to 8-10 knots.
We started the day out by winning the pin end of the line. We did not work our way to the middle of the course enough and rounded the mark in 15th place. We lost a few more boats on the last leg, finishing in 17th place. The second race, we had another great start up near the boat end of the line. We did not quite have the boat speed and made a few mistakes, finishing the race in 19th place. The last race was our best race yet. We didn’t have the best start but were able to quickly get back in phase. We had great speed in the lighter winds and sailed a good race, finishing 6th. Unfortunately, when we came ashore we learned that a jury member allegedly saw us hit a mark and was protesting us. After a long night in the protest room, we were disqualified from race three, dropping us from 13th place to 21st place overall. Although we were very sad to be thrown out of the last race, we were pleased with the progress we made over the course of the event. We are sailing more assertively, making better decisions, and our speed and handling are continuing to improve. We will watch the medal race today with our coach, Kenneth Andreasen, and see what we can learn while cheering on our teammates Stuart McNay and Graham Biehl. Then we will pack up the boats and travel to France tomorrow to begin training there. We have another World Cup Regatta in one week and we look forward to a good result there.
