Hyeres, France has had difficult sailing conditions over the past two days. Both days a light sea breeze has filled late in the afternoon. However, the sea breeze was very unstable, with 40 degree shifts and huge pressure differences. Everyone’s results were very inconsistent over the past two days.
We came out of the first difficult day relatively unscathed with a 15th and 7th, moving us up overall to 7th place, just a few points out of 5th. The last day we did not do as well, finishing with two 19th places. Although we had great starts and pretty good speed, we made some bad decisions up the first beat, costing us greatly. We were able to stay focused and pass as many boats as possible. Unfortunately, we dropped to 12th place overall and out of the medal race. We are a little disappointed with how the event ended, but it was still our best European result to date. And we are happy with the progress we have made. We now know we have excellent boat speed and starts and are able to be in the top three in races. We now just need a little more consistency in our decision making. Now we are bringing our car, boat and motorboat up to Amsterdam to store there for a few weeks while we fly home. We hope that when we come back to Europe we will be refreshed and able to post some good results.
