Team Molly has just completed their training in Hyeres, France. The training has been very productive. We have been trying to learn everything we can from the teams around us. Not only has the sailing been very competitive, but also the debriefs have been an amazing learning opportunity.
For two days we did some practice medal races with our five boat training group, the three Australian teams, a French men’s team and another American men’s team. This was a very difficult fleet, with two world champions, but we were able play. Medal races are generally shorter, about half an hour and limited to the top ten boats in the regatta. In our practice medal races, we had a race each day that we got fourth in and we were often between 6th and 8th place. The first day we struggled a little bit with our downwind speed and starts, but we improved upon both of those on the second day.
Today we did a shorter sail. We did a little tuning with the Austrian teams and then some practice races. We also measured and registered for the Semaines Olympique Francaise. We will be taking a day off tomorrow and then begin racing the following day. As of now there are 62 women’s teams registered and we will be racing in one fleet. Tomorrow we hope to see a little bit of France and just relax. There are some pictures on our website from what we have seen in France so far.
