We did not race on day three at all. They extended the qualification series another day. On day four we were once again postponed, but we finally began racing around 2pm. Team Molly had a difficult time in the challenging conditions on the race course. The first race was very light and the breeze continued to die throughout the race. The race began at 5 knots and died to about 2 knots. On the first beat we got into a protest with SIN 11, who we were able to throw out of the race when we got to land. Throughout the race we kept catching up to mid-fleet and then loosing boats on the next leg. By the last reach wind had died to almost nothing. Going into the last run, I saw one puff filling low and I jybed to get it; unfortunately, the sea breeze filled in high, shifting the wind 40 degrees. We ended up placing 23rd in this race. The second race the breeze was up to around 10 knots. We went towards the left side of the course. We were doing well, but we were quite far left and in a small lane that we could not hold in. When we tacked out of this lane we lost many boats. However, we went low on the next reach and passed all the boats we had lost, rounding the mark in 9th place. The next beat we lost a few more boats, finishing the race in 16th place. By the third race the wind had died down again to 5-7 knots, but the chop from the earlier wind remained. We once again had a good start and held our lane for a while but not quite long enough. This race was very close, and a couple times we lost our lane which was very costly. We ended up finishing in 17th place. We are currently in 41st place, which means we will compete in the silver fleet. Today, we will begin the final series. The forecast is once again light winds so we may be waiting to race again. There are three more days of racing left. We hope to continue learning, by improving holding in tight lanes and making good decisions around the race course.
