Team Molly had a bad race today. We were on course four which is more protected than the outer most course number 5. The wind comes over the land more and is very shifty and puffy. The wind picked up right before the start and varied between 12-16 knots. Furthermore, the current was going across our course making the water very disturbed and difficult to sail through.
We had did not have a very good start. We were in okay position but accelerated one second too late. We had to tack out very early and had some issues finding a lane and went towards the right side of the course. We managed to round the windward mark ahead of some boats even though the left breeze had come in. We then passed more on the downwind, rounding the leeward mark in 18th. Unfortunately, the following beat we worked our way left but there was a huge right shift, putting us ahead of only a couple boats. There were no more passing opportunities through the rest of the race. We finished the race 28th. This is our discard race right now.
We are currently in 21st place. Tomorrow we will be split into a gold and silver group and we will be in the gold fleet!!!!! This is the first time we have qualified for the gold fleet.
